3D mobile scanning is gaining recognition for being a rapid and effective solution for conducting underground survey-related tasks. We are pleased to announce a recent partnership agreement with Deswik, a leading mine planning software provider, to develop an easy-to-use, end-to-end mobile scanning workflow for our users. Purpose-built for underground mines, this unique and valuable product can generate point clouds from any mine vehicle, robotic vehicle or guided shaft conveyance.
The purpose of integrating Deswik software with uGPS data is to allow for a quick and efficient means to transform data into valuable and actionable information. Through working with Deswik, point cloud data can now be imported and ready for analysis with just a few clicks of the mouse. Since May 2016, a uGPS Rapid Mapper™ has been in use for scanning and processing 3D scan data using Deswik software at the Goldcorp Hoyle Pond mine site near Timmins, Ontario. They have and continue to use this information for tasks such as:
- Reconciliation analyses (overbreak/underbreak)
- Determination of applied shotcrete thicknesses to minimize overspray and its related costs
- Acquire rapid drift dimensions for engineering projects, ventilation studies, etc.
- Rapid and high-accuracy as-built generation
- Calculating excavated volumes in general
Using the powerful tools within the Deswik Suite software, information from the uGPS Rapid Mapper™ can also reveal many important underground mining features, such as the location of utility pipes and rock bolt plates and whether there is cracking or water infiltration in shaft infrastructure.
