Collecting data with the uGPS Rapid Mapper™is much faster than the scanning times associated with stationary scanning methods. Depending on the application, the scanning process can be up to 50 times faster than traditional scanners and does not require any extra manpower. In a recent demo, the uGPS Rapid Mapper™ was put to the test against a stationary scanner; both were used to scan a 700-metre section of underground drift. Thanks to its mobility (capable of generating 3D point cloud data at normal operating speeds), it only took the 2-man uGPS Rapid Mapper™ team 10 minutes for a full scan, while the stationary scanning team worked for a full 8 hours! The two resulting data sets were then used to generate a volume estimate for the drift, and despite the drastic discrepancy in scanning times, the volume estimates were only 0.5% different.
